Nordic Preparedness

Nordic Preparedness is a collaborative project where Astrid Lindgren's Hometown together with other Leader areas in Sweden, Finland, and Åland explores how local communities can strengthen their preparedness. Through experience exchanges, study visits, and networking, we want to contribute to a safer and more resilient rural area.

About the project

Astrid Lindgren's Hometown is currently participating in an exciting project focused on local preparedness – Nordic Preparedness. The project is conducted in collaboration with other Leader areas in Jönköping County, as well as partner areas in Finland and Åland.

The starting point is the changed global situation and a growing need to build robust local communities with better crisis preparedness. Through the project, we want to promote an exchange of experiences between different actors, such as farmers, municipal preparedness coordinators, civil society actors, associations, and engaged rural communities.

The purpose of the project

The project aims to contribute to increased knowledge and collaboration regarding local preparedness through, among other things:

  • Study trips and knowledge exchanges between participating areas

  • Visits to emergency services, preparedness warehouses, small-scale energy facilities, and other good examples

  • Conversations and workshops on how we together strengthen our resilience in rural areas

– We see this as a way to contribute in our role as a Leader area. Nordic Preparedness gives us the opportunity to make connections, gather experiences, and learn together – both nationally and Nordic, says Caroline Wittrin, operations manager for Astrid Lindgren's Hometown.

Why collaborate with Finland and Åland?

The collaboration with Finland and Åland is a natural part of the project. We share many similarities but also have differences that make the exchange of experiences particularly valuable. Åland, which is demilitarized, also provides a different perspective on preparedness issues.

What happens next?

The first joint meeting will take place in the fall of 2025. Then our exchanges will begin with trips and knowledge meetings between the areas.
