This is how it goes

Here you will find more information about how to get started with your idea for a project.

Four steps to your project

A leader project is a process with four different steps. To begin with, there must be a development idea, something that can be refined and summarized into a concrete project, and a formal project application must be written. Then, if approved, the project must be implemented according to the conditions and regulations that exist. Finally, the project must be concluded and a final report must be submitted.

The application process differs between applying for support for larger projects and applying for support for smaller projects through our Leaders Checks. If you want to apply for a Leaders Check, you should not follow the steps below but instead see more information under Search leader check.

Step 1

Getting started

A successful project is based on local conditions and the driving forces that exist in the place. Therefore, start by anchoring the idea and talking to others. Is there a need for the project to be implemented?

Don't miss reading more about the goals and areas of focus that Astrid Lindgren's Hometown has in its local development strategy. Your application must be in line with our strategy in order to be granted leader support.

The staff at the Leader office is a support in the application process and wants to hear about your project idea before you submit your project application to the Swedish Board of Agriculture. Therefore, in the first step, send us a registration of interest. You will then receive feedback on whether your project could be a Leader project or not and whether it is something you need to think about further. If you then receive feedback that your project could be a Leader project, you move on to step 2.

NOTE: During the summer we will not be able to respond to submitted expressions of interest. We will resume the work of reviewing submitted expressions of interest from August 15th.

Step 2

Writing an application

After your application for project support has been approved, you apply for project support in the Swedish Board of Agriculture's system. We at the office will then read the application and provide feedback, often several times, before the application is complete.

When the application you have submitted to the Swedish Board of Agriculture is complete, it will be forwarded to our board and now it's time to keep your fingers crossed! The board makes decisions at regular intervals according to Astrid Lindgren's Hometown Basic conditions and Selection criteria.

When the board meetings take place can be seen in the calendar here on the website.

As soon as the decision has been made, we will contact you to tell you how it went.

Step 3

Implement

Now is the time to leave the starting blocks and turn the idea into reality! You can start the project before you have received a formal decision from the Swedish Board of Agriculture, but this is at your own risk. We at the Leader office are involved throughout the implementation.

Step 4

End

Congratulations on completing your project!

When the project has been completed, it is time to apply for final payment and report on the project.

Can your idea be
a leader project?

Use our checklist below!

The project is permeated by the leader method

Leader's seven basic principles, see more information here

The project meets one or more of the local development strategy's objectives and areas of focus

You will find information about our strategy here

The project is in line with the strategy's overarching principles of sustainable development, equal treatment and non-discrimination, and equality between women and men.

The project has a relevant purpose and concrete goals.

The project has broad benefits and leads to development and improvement for more than just those who implement the project.

The project has a clear and well-developed project plan, budget, financing and can demonstrate good conditions for implementation. The project must also be outside of regular operations.

The project contains a plan for what happens after the project period and for how the project's results will be utilized.
