About us
Astrid Lindgren's Hometown is a non-profit organization that works with rural development according to the Leader method.
Astrid Lindgren's Hometown
We are a non-profit organization that works with rural development through the Leader method. The method is based on local ideas and local decisions, where the private, non-profit and public sectors work together across municipal and county borders. The Leader method is found throughout the European Union and the starting point is that the most successful and effective development is carried out by the people who live and work in the place.
We support people and organizations that have good ideas that benefit the municipalities that are part of Astrid Lindgren's Hometown. If you have a good idea that can lead to positive development for our region, you can contact us and use us as a sounding board and get support if your idea would fit within the leader method.
Our municipalities
The current programming period runs from 2023-2027. The Leader area for the new programming period covers northern Småland and southern Östergötland with the 10 municipalities:
Aneby, Eksjö, Hultsfred, Högsby, Kinda, Nässjö, Vetlanda, Vimmerby, Ydre and part of Oskarshamn municipality. An area with approximately 135,000 inhabitants.

Board of Directors
The board of Astrid Lindgren's Hometown consists of 21 members representing their respective municipalities. The board has an even distribution of representatives from the non-profit, public and private sectors. The board is elected by association members at the annual meeting. The board is responsible for ensuring that we work based on our development strategy and decides on the distribution of leader support.
Local development strategy
Each Leader area has its own development strategy, which has been developed jointly by community members, entrepreneurs and public figures in the area. The strategy shows what needs to be done to make the area more attractive and competitive. It is the basis for all priorities throughout the programme period.
