Åsen 2.0

The Åsen's village Cultural Reserve Foundation has been granted funding from Astrid Lindgren's Hembygd for the Åsen 2.0 project. The project aims to enhance the visitor experience by creating more period-typical living environments and improving access to nature around the cultural reserve.

Åsen's village is Sweden's first cultural reserve and offers visitors a unique opportunity to experience a Småland village as it appeared around the turn of the 20th century. Within the project, the kitchens in the accommodations will be remodeled to better reflect the era, while hiking trails are upgraded and a new rest area with a shelter and platform for birdwatching is established by Lake Ruppen.

The initiative is carried out in collaboration with Haurida Hembygds- and Recreation Association, the Ornithologists in Aneby, the Church of Sweden, and the non-profit association Åsens Vänner. Together, better opportunities are created for both visitors and the local population to experience the cultural heritage and the surrounding nature.

The project has a clear sustainability perspective where reuse, traditional building preservation methods, and local entrepreneurs are in focus. By developing both the living environments and nature experiences, Åsen's village aims to strengthen its attractiveness and create long-term conditions for a vibrant tourism industry in the area.
