Emån 2026, from source to sea

Through a joint study trip along Emån, Saljenbygdens FVO association, together with nearby fishery conservation associations, will increase their knowledge about the water system, water and fish conservation, and how different activities use and affect the water from Vetlanda to the sea. Through the study trip, participants will gain knowledge, inspiration, and new contacts that strengthen the associations' continued work for sustainable water environments and biodiversity.

About the sub-activity

The sub-activity aims to increase knowledge about water and fish management among members of the Saljenbygdens FVO association and nearby fish management area associations. The background includes challenges with varying water availability and deteriorating water quality in the lakes and watercourses managed by the association.

Within the sub-activity, a study trip is conducted where participants follow the Emån river from the Vetlanda area to its mouth in the sea and make several stops along the way. With the support of the Emå Federation's expertise, participants will learn more about, among other things, water regulation, sampling, fish management, biology, and habitat management, as well as how different activities use the water resource. The study trip is carried out together with the Hjortens and Övrasjön fish management area associations and will also create conditions for future experience exchange and collaboration between the associations.

The knowledge gained from the trip will be used in the ongoing work with sampling, monitoring, and various water management initiatives in the associations' own lakes and watercourses. An excursion report will be produced, and the experiences may also be disseminated through a short film for the associations' members. In the long term, the sub-activity aims to contribute to increased engagement among members and better conditions for managing water environments, strengthening ecosystems, and promoting biodiversity.

About the umbrella project

A vibrant countryside is created by people who want to develop the place where they live and work. With the umbrella project Living Rural Areas, Astrid Lindgren's Hembygd aims to give associations and organizations the opportunity to harness local ideas and acquire the knowledge needed to implement them in practice.

Through leader checks of 10,000–40,000 kronor, local actors can carry out skills development initiatives that contribute to creating new leisure and cultural activities, meeting places, or training opportunities.
