The national leaders' meeting is coming to Vimmerby

It is now clear that the annual national leaders' meeting in 2024 will be arranged in Vimmerby in collaboration with Astrid Lindgren's Hometown.
On October 23-24, around 200 people from all over Sweden will gather at Astrid Lindgren's World to share lessons learned, experiences and opportunities with local development through the leader method.

The national leaders' meeting is an annual event organized by The Rural Network in collaboration with a local leader area. This year the event will be held on October 23-24 in collaboration with Astrid Lindgren's Hometown in Vimmerby. Over two days, stakeholders from all over the country will gather to jointly raise issues about rural development from different perspectives.

  • We are both happy and proud to welcome Leader-Sweden to Vimmerby. This is an opportunity for us to showcase our area and show what Leader has made possible in our region. Being able to do it in the unique setting that Astrid Lindgren's World offers feels extra special, says Caroline Wittrin, operations manager for Astrid Lindgren's Hometown

About Astrid Lindgren's hometown

Astrid Lindgren's Hometown has a long history of working with rural development. The area was one of Sweden's first Leader areas and the first Leader project was granted back in 1997. Over the years, hundreds of small and large projects have been implemented with money from Leader. Exciting concepts have been tested, new activities have been created and existing ones have been developed.

Astrid Lindgren has, like few others, conveyed the image of the Swedish countryside and the importance of the people, ideas and the power of action that exist here, not least among children and young people. Working with sustainable development of our countryside is the driving force behind Astrid Lindgren's Hometown and we want to do it in the spirit of Astrid Lindgren - with courage, wisdom and ingenuity.

The association's mission is to distribute project support for local rural development, so-called Leader support, with funding from the EU Rural Development Fund, the state and municipal co-financing. The Leader method is based on local initiatives and anchoring and the work is done based on a local development strategy. Astrid Lindgren's Hometown Leader area covers northern Småland and southern Östergötland with the 10 municipalities: Aneby, Eksjö, Hultsfred, Högsby, Kinda, Nässjö, Vetlanda, Vimmerby, Ydre and part of Oskarshamn municipality. An area with approximately 135,000 inhabitants.

About Leader

Locally-led development through Leader means getting involved in the development of your own countryside and being able to receive support for development projects.
